Love pasta but don’t love the calories?

Here are a few great alternatives to your favorite pasta dishes that are healthy and nutritious and low in carbs.

The first is is a great wanna-be spaghetti known as the miracle noodle or Shiratiki noodle or Pasta Zero   They come in different types like spaghetti, linguini, and macaroni and are easy to find in most grocery stores for about $2, next to where tofu is sold. They are Kosher, vegan, gluten free and have practically no calories. They are not good on their own though. They need some kind of sauce, stir fry vegetables, or lean meat.  I usually make them with chopped tomatoes, and either grilled chicken or meatless meatballs.  Try to avoid pouring a ton of pre-made pasta sauce on them as that can be high in sugars/calories and defeat the goal of avoiding pasta in the first place

Next is zucchini. although you can use special spiralizer tools to cut your zucchini in spaghetti shape, I used use use a julienne peeler or just finely slice the vegetable.  It is light in taste, cooks in a flash, and can be eaten hot or cold.

And finally is spaghetti squash. As it’s name implies, it kind of resembles spaghetti and is mild in taste so it can easily be used like spaghetti with sauces, meats and vegetables. It may take a little longer to prepare as it need to be baked in the oven for a good 30mins, it is totally worth it.
